Partnership between IIT and Iberdrola Italy

Iberdrola, one of the world's leaders in renewable energies, will continue to count on "green" hydrogen, also in Italy. Therefore, a letter of intent has been signed with the Institute for Innovative Technologies (IIT), a national hydrogen pioneer and promoter of the first Italian Hydrogen Valley: both companies will jointly develop solutions for the entire "green" hydrogen sector - with a special focus on mobility.

Iberdrola has extensive international know-how and can identify the best possible solutions for the supply of hydrogen from renewable sources for mobility applications. The Spanish company offers support in the construction of renewable energy plants as well as in the production, the storage and the delivery of hydrogen to the end customer. Iberdrola's contribution also includes the engineering necessary for approval process - a component which is complex and important.

The partnership with IIT - wich runs Italy's first production of "green" hydrogen as well as the first and (at the moment) only public hydrogen refuelling station in Bozen/Bolzano - appears therefore particularly strategic.

"Since 2014 we are working on the whole hydrogen value chain - from the production to the different applications, especially in the mobility sector - in a local ecosystem“, explains Dieter Theiner, IIT President. "Cooperating with Iberdrola is a deliberate step towards our future".

In fact, the activities of IIT include the development and the management of additional hydrogen infrastructures necessary for the production and distribution of "green" hydrogen as well as for the refuelling Among the activities of heavy duty vehicles, light commvercial vehicles with fuel cells or hydrogen engines. Therefore, Iberdrola will have the opportunity to experiment with new application forms of this energetic vector.
